How do I Buy?

Buying is easy. Where an item has a “Buy Now” button, this means that you can use your Credit/Debit card, or your PayPal account, to pay for it. For other items, you will need to contact the seller and come to an agreement about price and collection/delivery arrangements.

How do payments work?

If you use the “Buy Now” option to purchase an item, the payment will be processed by PayPal, the leading online payment provider, with more than 153 million accounts worldwide. With this option you can use a Credit/Debit card, or a PayPal account. You don’t have to be registered with PayPal to buy. Once payment has been made, the seller will dispatch the item(s) within the agreed time to you.

For other items, you will need to contact the seller and come to an agreement regarding payment for the item about how the item will be paid for.

Do I need to be registered with PayPal, or have a Credit Card to buy?

Where an item has a “Buy Now” button, this means that you can use your Credit/Debit card or your PayPal account to pay for it. For other items, you will need to contact the seller and come to an agreement regarding payment for the item.

How will my item be delivered?

If you use the “Buy Now” option to purchase goods, your item will be delivered either by standard or registered post or by courier. For other items, you will need to contact the seller and come to an agreement about collection and delivery arrangements.

Can I cancel a purchase?

For items purchased using the “Buy Now” option, you have a right to cancel any item purchased, for a period of 14 days from the date of receipt, without giving any reason. However, there are a number of exclusions to this - please visit Citizens Information for more information. If you wish to cancel an order make contact with the seller.

Please see our Terms and Conditions for more details.

What happens if I don’t receive an item that I bought through an online shop?

If you don’t receive an item, within the agreed timeframe, make contact with the seller for an update. They may also be able to provide you with tracking details.

Are there other charges such as Postage and Packing?

The price listed in the ad page is the total amount you will need to pay for your goods or services. If the ad is “Buy Now” then the shipping costs may be extra. You can find this by hovering over the words “shipping costs” in a “Buy Now” ad. Return charges may apply, however if this is the case, details will be provided by the seller within the ad.

Safe buying guidelines

The vast bulk of BuyAndSell.ie users are genuine and trustworthy people. However, it’s important that you to use the same common sense making a purchase through BuyAndSell.ie, that you would when making a purchase on other websites or offline. These guidelines will help you stay secure and safe when making purchase through our website or directly from the seller (face-to-face):

  • We strongly suggest using Credit/Debit Card or PayPal, where possible, to pay for items.
  • Do not pay for goods through money transfer companies. We would always be cautious of dealing with buyers (or sellers) offering to use this method of payment. A number of well publicised frauds or scams rely on this method and so we recommend you use others.
  • Be aware of sellers putting you under pressure to make a quick purchase.
  • Be aware of goods advertised for a very low price. There can be a legitimate reason for someone selling at a low price, but it should make you think twice.
  • Deal with people locally where possible and bring a friend if it makes you feel more secure.
  • Enquire if you can contact the seller through a landline number as well as a mobile number. This will help you contact the user in the future (should you need to) and make you more confident about the sale.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for a signed receipt of payment with the sellers address included.
  • If you are suspicious of an Ad please report it though our Contact Us page.

Guidelines for buying a Vehicle

Be aware if the vehicle price is much lower than models of a similar class. A very low price may suggest the seller has been unable to sell the car in the past. Make sure you are aware of the average price of cars in this range.

  • Get a mechanic to do a check on the vehicle prior to purchase. Whether a friend in the know, or a service you pay for, this is something we always advise. If you are serious about a purchase, you could save a lot of money and hassle by having a professional check it first.
  • Check the vehicles history through www.motorcheck.ie You can avail of their free service for a quick check, but we would highly recommend you spend some time and money, prior to purchasing a car.
  • Check if the vehicle is subject to a hire purchase agreement with www.hpifirst.ie at 01 2600905.
  • The change in ownership of a vehicle must be registered. For more information on the process of changing vehicle ownership, go to the Citizens Information website.
